καὶ φέρει σαφές τι πρᾶγος ἐσθλὸν ἢ κακὸν κλύειν.

ὦ γῆς ἁπάσης Ἀσιάδος πολίσματα,

ὦ Περσὶς αἶα καὶ πολὺς πλούτου λιμήν,
ὡς ἐν μιᾷ πληγῇ κατέφθαρται πολὺς
ὄλβος , τὸ Περσῶν δ᾽ ἄνθος οἴχεται πεσόν.
ὤμοι , κακὸν μὲν πρῶτον ἀγγέλλειν κακά:
ὅμως δ᾽ ἀνάγκη πᾶν ἀναπτύξαι πάθος,
